Clarkson’s Farm Star Fires Back at Trolls Who Say She’s Too Glam for the Job

Harriet Cowan might be the newest face on Clarkson’s Farm, but she’s already making headlines for more than just her tractor skills. The 24-year-old nurse-turned-farmer stepped in temporarily for Kaleb Cooper at Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm in the latest season of the Prime Video hit and has quickly won over a chunk of the audience with her no-nonsense attitude and down-to-earth charm.

But not everyone has been so kind. Despite her clear graft on the Oxfordshire farm, a few viewers have taken issue with her appearance, saying she looks “too done up” to be mucking about with animals and machinery. The online comments have ranged from backhanded compliments to straight-up trolling, with one common dig being, “Stop dressing up and wearing makeup, you’re a farmer”, reported the Express.

Rather than taking it lying down, Cowan had the perfect clapback. She posted a TikTok of herself dancing and lipsyncing to Selena Gomez’s Hands to Myself, playfully mouthing the line, “I mean I could, but why would I want to?” Her caption made her point crystal clear: “Farmers wear makeup too.”

She’s not shy about speaking out on the issue either. Chatting on BBC Breakfast News, the Derbyshire-born farmhand explained how much she wants to change outdated ideas about what a farmer looks like. “Just because I’m a small blonde who likes to curl her hair and wear make-up and things like that doesn’t mean I can’t be a farmer,” she said.

“For me, it’s really important. I think it’s just changing that stereotype of being a farmer and what a farmer is. But I’m definitely still going to farm, you’re never getting me off this place!” That energy has clearly struck a chord with fans, many of whom have praised her online for breaking the mould and just being herself.

Since her appearance on the show, Cowan’s been noticing a shift in her everyday life too. “I’m shocked because I didn’t realise so many people are interested in me and what I do day to day,” she admitted. “I’ve never really thought of it as anything exciting. It’s just my little life. I get up and farm, go to work, come back and farm.”

She added, “Even walking down the street and seeing people, they’ll recognise us. It’s absolutely crazy.” Fame clearly wasn’t something she saw coming, especially since she confessed to Clarkson himself in her first scene that she’d never actually watched a full episode of Clarkson’s Farm. “Well, you know on YouTube you get those ‘shorts’ where it’s like funny moments? I’ve seen them. I ain’t got time to watch all that,” she said, leaving Jeremy Clarkson looking rather baffled.

If anyone thought that was scripted, Cowan quickly shut that down too. Speaking on Emily Clarkson’s podcast Should I Delete That?, she laughed about the moment. “In the trailer where it’s like, ‘Have you watched Clarkson’s Farm before?’ And I’m like, ‘No’, it looked so fake. But it is so real because we don’t watch telly.”

As for whether she’ll be back for more episodes, Cowan’s keeping it open. “We’ve always left it very open. I’m here if he needs me, but no plans at the minute. If he needs me, I’m here.” Sounds like the glam farmer isn’t going anywhere any time soon – makeup and all.
