Good Morning Britain Viewers Outraged Over Peppa Pig ‘Breaking News’ Segment

Frustrated Good Morning Britain viewers were left unimpressed—and some even switched off—after the programme interrupted its usual content to deliver a “breaking news” announcement about a fictional cartoon character.

During Monday’s episode, the ITV breakfast show took a light-hearted turn when showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold broke in with an unexpected update: Peppa Pig has a new baby sister.

The announcement, intended as a humorous segment, revealed that the newest character in the popular children’s TV series is named Evie, after Mummy Pig’s aunt. Richard shared the news with a theatrical flair, quipping, “She was born at 5:34am this morning, thankfully just in time to watch her first ever Good Morning Britain.”

“She’s certainly receiving the royal treatment so far,” he continued. “With the town crier announcing her birth and a special plaque—how very royal—with all the birthing details unveiled.”

While the segment was clearly delivered in jest, many viewers were less than amused by the coverage, taking to social media to vent their frustration at what they saw as a trivial distraction, according to the Daily Express.

One particularly angry viewer posted: “What the ‘F’ is going on? Peppa Pig, seriously? GMB is at best a cartoon show anyway but this Richard Arnold piece underlines how little credibility is left. Time to turn over!”

Other viewers echoed the sentiment, criticising the show for focusing on what they deemed irrelevant content rather than more serious news stories. Many argued that a children’s TV plotline hardly warranted the “breaking news” banner and called on the producers to reassess the balance of the programme’s content.

Despite the backlash, some fans of the long-running show defended the light-hearted moment, suggesting it offered a welcome bit of fun amidst a typically heavy news cycle. Still, the criticism highlighted the fine line breakfast programmes often walk between entertainment and journalism.

Good Morning Britain has previously featured similarly playful segments, especially with Richard Arnold at the helm of showbiz news. However, the strong viewer response suggests that not everyone was ready to trade headlines for cartoon births on a Monday morning.

As for Peppa Pig fans, the introduction of Evie marks a new chapter in the animated series—one that, ironically, may have caused more drama in the real world than in the fictional one.
