‘I Had to Learn to Live Without Him’: Heartbroken Widow of Dave Myers Shares Emotional Tribute to Late Husband
The widow of beloved TV chef and Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has touched hearts across the nation with a deeply emotional tribute shared more than a year after his passing.
Posting a heartfelt message and photo on Facebook, Liliana Myers opened up about the immense void left by Dave’s death in February 2024, following his battle with cancer. Her moving words offered a glimpse into the grief, love, and strength that have shaped her journey since losing her husband of many years.
Reflecting on Dave’s wisdom and the lessons he tried to impart during their life together, Liliana wrote: “When he said: ‘Lil, you should learn how to ride a bike’. I said: ‘My love, I have you to do that. We enjoy sharing a bike ride together too much.’
“When he said: ‘You should follow recipes and cook nice food’. I said: ‘But my darling, you’re cooking for me wonderful food… kitchen is your territory.’ “When he said to me: ‘Lil, you should get out there more, explore more on your own.’
I said: ‘Dave, my life is wrapped around you, I love the experiences we have together and who I am with you… I don’t need more.’ “How right was he and how wrong was I because, when I lost him, I had to learn to do all of those things without him! And it hurts now that I did say no then.”
Liliana’s message ended with a message of hope and encouragement to others: “I’m telling you all these things because this has been a valuable lesson to me, and hopefully you feel inspired to: do, experience, live, love and enjoy everything for yourself, be daring and bold, don’t hide behind someone else’s dreams.”
Her tribute quickly went viral, with fans flooding the post with messages of support. “Tears streaming down my face,” one commenter wrote. Another added: “He’s still with you when you’re doing all of those things… you’ll carry him with you forever.”
Dave and Liliana’s romance began in Romania while filming The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook, where Dave fell for Liliana, a hotel worker at the time. Despite the distance, their love blossomed and endured.
Recalling their first encounter, she said: “He picked me up from the airport… and said, ‘What do you want me to cook for you?’ I’d never had a man cook for me before. From that moment, my heart just melted.” Dave Myers passed away at 66, leaving behind not only a legacy of culinary joy but also a love story that continues to inspire.
