‘Disappointed’ Prince Harry sends strong message to his aunts regarding Meghan Markle

Prince Harry reportedly sent a strong message to his late mother’s sisters after their frosty reception of Meghan Markle left him deeply disappointed, according to royal biographer Tom Bower.

In the book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, Bower details the moment Harry introduced Meghan to Princess Diana’s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, and how it did not unfold as he had hoped.

According to the Mirror, which cited excerpts from the biography, the Duke of Sussex had anticipated that his aunts would warmly embrace Meghan and even see striking similarities between her and their beloved sister, Princess Diana. Instead, Harry was left hurt and disillusioned.

“Harry assumed that Diana’s family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, shared the same problems. He was so disappointed,” Bower writes.

While Harry has often spoken publicly about how he believes Diana would have been “over the moon” about his relationship with Meghan, her sisters reportedly did not share the same sentiment. The book claims that Lady McCorquodale and Lady Fellowes felt Meghan “would not fit in with the Royal Family.”

This reaction reportedly delivered a painful emotional blow to Harry, who has long maintained that his wife shares many of Diana’s defining qualities. He has remained publicly defiant in the face of criticism, standing by Meghan and her role in his life.

In his 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the duke once again drew comparisons between Meghan and his mother, doubling down on his belief that they are alike in the most important ways.

“So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum,” Harry said. “She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence. She has this warmth about her.”

Harry’s enduring defense of Meghan has been a recurring theme throughout their relationship, especially as the couple has navigated media scrutiny and strained relations with the royal family. This latest revelation sheds new light on the challenges he faced not only from the institution but also from within Diana’s own family.

Despite the early setbacks, Harry and Meghan have continued to chart their own path outside of royal life. Yet, the emotional fallout from that difficult introduction to Diana’s sisters continues to resonate — a poignant reminder of how personal relationships have influenced the Duke’s journey.
