King Charles Reportedly Does Not Want to ‘Build a Mountain of Resentment’ with Prince Harry
King Charles III is reportedly committed to the path of peace and reconciliation, even as tensions remain with his youngest son, Prince Harry. Despite a series of public criticisms and claims made by the Duke of Sussex, the monarch is said to be avoiding confrontation and holding firm to the hope of a future reunion.
The 76-year-old King, currently undergoing cancer treatment, has not let the strain deter his royal duties—or his resolve to mend familial ties. According to palace insiders, Charles believes that healing the rift is the only way forward, and he remains focused on unity rather than harboring resentment.
“He believes the only way out of this mess is to reunite and not to build a mountain of resentment,” a source told The Telegraph. “What father does not forgive their son?”
Despite the ongoing silence between the two camps—reportedly with no recent direct contact between Charles and Harry—there is mutual desire for reconciliation. Both sides are said to be interested in repairing the relationship, though each believes the other should make the first move.
“In many ways, the royal family is no different to any other family,” the insider added. “It will be their normality, rather than their uniqueness, which offers their greatest chance of reconciliation. Although Harry resents the role he was dealt within the institution, it is the fact that they are father and son that will bring them back together.”

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California with Meghan Markle, Prince Harry has made several high-profile revelations about life within the monarchy, including in interviews and his memoir Spare. These disclosures have reportedly caused deep strains within the family, yet Charles is said to be taking a longer view, hoping that time will heal the wounds.
Royal commentators have echoed this sentiment. Veteran broadcaster and royal biographer Jonathan Dimbleby previously stated on the BBC: “If he [Harry] wants reconciliation, I don’t understand how you do it by metaphorically sitting in your Apache firing potshots at people who aren’t going to answer back, as he must very well know.”
While the road to reconciliation remains uncertain, those close to the monarch suggest King Charles is determined not to let the divide define the rest of their relationship. For now, he remains hopeful that his bond with Harry will, in time, overcome the distance and division.
