Lorraine Kelly Sparks Outrage After Laughing at Brigitte Macron ‘Shoving’ President!

Lorraine Kelly has come under fire after a segment on her ITV morning show sparked backlash from viewers who felt she treated a serious incident far too lightly.

On the Tuesday, May 27 episode of Lorraine, the host was joined by entertainment correspondent Ross King and commentator Nicola Thorp to discuss various global headlines. The conversation soon turned to a now-viral video of French President Emmanuel Macron being pushed in the face by his wife, Brigitte Macron, as they disembarked from a presidential aircraft in Vietnam on Sunday, May 25.

Although Brigitte was largely obscured by the aircraft’s fuselage in the footage, the clip captured what appeared to be a moment of physical contact between the couple. The French presidential office later released a statement clarifying the incident, explaining: “It was a moment when the president and his wife were relaxing one last time before the start of the trip by having a laugh,” as reported by Edinburgh Live.

Still, Lorraine’s on-air commentary did not sit well with viewers. “Making the news this morning, this moment caught on video where French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, well, she thumps him and gives him a bit of a shove right in the face,” Lorraine said during the broadcast. “What are they saying, Ross? How are they justifying this?”

Ross responded jokingly, “Remember when we were kids, Lorraine, and there was a song, ‘Ye Cannae Shove Yer Grannie Aff a Bus’? Obviously in France it’s a little bit different. You can possibly shove your husband and French President off the plane.” He then turned to Lorraine and asked, “I don’t know, I’ve never shoved anyone like that, have you?”

Lorraine laughed and replied, “Weird. If they’re doing that when the door’s open, you wonder what’s going on behind the scenes.”

Nicola Thorp also weighed in, noting recent controversies surrounding President Macron, including his diplomatic engagements with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Lorraine wrapped up the segment by reiterating, “It’s very strange, it’s just very strange.”

However, viewers were quick to condemn the tone of the discussion. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their outrage over what they perceived as a double standard and lack of sensitivity.

“Absolutely disgusting that #Lorraine thinks it’s funny when a woman hits a man… it’s no joke!” one user wrote.

Another added, “Is this a funny story? Not sure why #Lorraine thinks it’s so funny.” A third echoed the concern: “They were clearly having an argument. If the roles were reversed, imagine the outrage!”

The segment has since sparked wider conversations about domestic boundaries and the treatment of similar incidents in the media.
