Lorraine Kelly weighed in on her best and worst interview experiences
Lorraine Kelly has opened up about her most memorable celebrity interview moments—both good and bad—in a new conversation with the Daily Mail, revealing George Clooney as her all-time favourite while naming Lady Gaga and Mariah Carey as two of her most difficult encounters.
The beloved 65-year-old ITV presenter was prompted by a fan to share stories from her decades-long career on television. When asked who stood out as the best interviewee, Lorraine didn’t hesitate to name Hollywood star George Clooney.

“George Clooney is adorable. He just is,” she said, clearly still smitten. “He’s my favourite.” However, the conversation soon turned to less pleasant experiences. Lorraine revealed that her most challenging interviews came with two global music icons—Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga.
Recalling her sit-down with Mariah, Lorraine didn’t mince words but was careful not to be cruel.
“The one that was difficult, not because she was horrible… but Mariah Carey was ‘refreshed’,” she explained diplomatically.
Because the segment was pre-recorded, Lorraine and her team were able to salvage the footage.
“It’s good we were [pre-recording] it because her first answer was 10 minutes long and did not make any sense,” she revealed. Still, she extended grace, adding, “But I always give people the benefit of the doubt.”
However, it was her experience with Lady Gaga that she described as the most frustrating—mainly because the interview never even happened. “They kept saying ‘She’s getting in the car, she’s getting in the car,’” Lorraine recounted.
“And of course, my crew have all been up since God knows when… they need to go home to bed!” Despite the promises, Lady Gaga never showed up. “She never turned up; I don’t know what happened there,” Lorraine concluded, still baffled by the last-minute no-show.
Lorraine, who has interviewed hundreds of celebrities over her long career, is known for her warm and welcoming style, often putting guests at ease. But as this latest confession shows, even the most seasoned professionals have had their share of on-air disasters and disappointments.
Still, her favourite moments—like chatting with the ever-charming Clooney—serve as a reminder of why she remains one of the UK’s most trusted and enduring broadcasters.
