Olly Murs Walks Off Stage Mid-Concert Leaving Fans Stunned and Apologising
Olly Murs fans in Glasgow were left both surprised and disappointed Thursday night when the pop star walked off stage mid-concert, struggling to push through a vocal issue. Just six songs into his set at the Ovo Hydro arena, the 41-year-old singer had to call it quits, telling the audience he just couldn’t keep going.
In a heartfelt message posted to his Instagram stories shortly after leaving the stage, Murs apologized “from the bottom of my heart.” He was clearly shaken by the situation, telling fans, “I’ve never done this in 15 years.”
Most performers have been there—those moments when your voice isn’t quite right, but you try to power through anyway. Murs shared that this was one of those nights, saying, “Most of the time, as singers, you can get through it if your voice is not 100%. I walked out tonight thinking my voice is great, maybe felt a little bit run down. But I didn’t think I couldn’t do the show or I wouldn’t have come out otherwise.”
The Essex native reassured fans that he didn’t take the decision lightly. He said he planned to see a doctor that same night to get checked out, especially with major shows in Manchester, Birmingham, and London still coming up over the weekend.
“It’s unfair for you guys who spent all that money to come and see me, you deserve the best show,” he added. “Hopefully, I can recover from this.”
For many longtime fans, the abrupt ending was shocking—especially coming from an artist known for his high-energy performances and connection with his audience. If anything, though, Murs’s honesty and emotion in the moment only seemed to deepen their support.
His roots in the music industry go back to 2009 when he shot to fame as a standout contestant on the sixth season of The X-Factor. He didn’t win, but that hardly mattered—his career took off almost immediately. His self-titled debut album dropped the next year and quickly went double platinum. Since then, Murs has become a mainstay of the British pop scene, known for hits like “Dance with Me Tonight” and “Troublemaker,” and his signature upbeat, cheeky charm.
His most recent album, Marry Me, was released in 2022, showing that even 13 years in, he’s still got a strong fan base and plenty of momentum.
But Thursday night was a reminder that even the pros have off days, especially when it comes to something as fragile as the human voice. For Murs, who’s been doing this for over a decade without ever walking off a stage, it clearly wasn’t a decision he made lightly.
As for what’s next, fans across the UK will be keeping their fingers crossed that Murs is back in action soon. Judging by his emotional message, he’s more than ready to bounce back and deliver the kind of show his audiences have come to expect.
