Susanna Reid Slammed After Fiery Tube Interview Leaves Viewers Fuming
GB News presenter Patrick Christys hasn’t held back after Susanna Reid grilled Robert Jenrick on Good Morning Britain, calling out what he saw as a disconnect between the ITV host and everyday London commuters.
The controversy kicked off when Jenrick posted a now-viral video from Stratford station, showing him confronting alleged fare dodgers on the London Underground. Things took a dramatic turn in the clip when one man claimed he had a knife – a moment that quickly became the focal point of public backlash. Jenrick, the former Shadow Justice Secretary, was criticised for not reporting the chilling claim to police.
Reid seized on this during her interview with him, launching into an intense line of questioning. Her frustration was palpable as she challenged Jenrick: “Somebody told you that they were carrying a knife on the London Underground and you didn’t report it to the police,” she said, reported the Express. She went further, saying, “I travel on the tube, my kids travel on the tube… you’re worried about fare-dodging, I’m worried about people carrying knives.”
Jenrick stood his ground, replying, “It’s not about me,” but Reid wasn’t convinced. “I don’t want to be disrespectful to you, you made it all about you,” she shot back. “The video was literally all about you – it’s you walking around tube stations, confronting people… to say that you didn’t report what was said because you didn’t want to make it about you is disingenuous.”
Patrick Christys was quick to respond, reposting the interview clip on X and questioning Reid’s credibility when it comes to London transport. “Does Susanna Reid ever get the tube? I believe she is driven to and from work every day,” he wrote. “I wonder if she ever comes into contact with the kind of rampant lawlessness that the rest of us do?”
His wife, fellow GB News host Emily Carver, also weighed in on the segment, posting: “They seem to really despise him! Odd interview.”
And they weren’t alone. Viewers flocked to social media to call out what they saw as a biased and overly aggressive tone from Reid and her co-host Ed Balls. “He did a great job, this is just left wing bias in this interview,” one user wrote, while another added: “This interview was all about you Susanna.”
A third chimed in: “To be fair Susanna, that was a bit disrespectful. Not sure how many people have the courage to call out fare dodgers in public like this. Well done @RobertJenrick imo.”
The backlash kept coming. “This did not discuss the issue, it undermined the poor guy and he had serious points, proper statistics,” said one frustrated viewer. “Anyone who uses the underground or train system has seen people slipping through the turnstiles or being asked for a ticket and then getting off at the next stop…”
Others blasted the show more broadly. “This show has degraded so badly. No wonder hardly anyone watches these shows now,” another user commented.
One viewer summed up the sentiment shared by many critics online: “Susanna Reid sounds like she has more of a problem with Robert highlighting the issue, than the issue itself. This was all about YOU Susanna.”
Another slammed the interview outright: “This was diabolical TV. Aggressive and nasty, unpleasant to watch (and I’m no fan of Robert Jenrick). Exceedingly unprofessional and I certainly won’t bother watching again.”
