Prince William and Kate Face ‘Make or Break’ Moment That Could Test Their Marriage
The past year has been described as a “make or break” period for Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, but royal experts say the couple has emerged stronger, reinforcing their image as a pillar of stability within the monarchy.
Renowned royal historian Amanda Foreman shared this sentiment in a recent interview with Fox News Digital, praising the royal pair for navigating one of the most turbulent periods of their lives with grace and unity.
“The last five years have been a nightmare for them in every possible way – the past year even more so,” Foreman remarked, reflecting on the immense personal and public pressures that have challenged the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The royal couple faced a particularly devastating blow when Kate was diagnosed with cancer in 2024. While the specific type of cancer has not been made public, it is known that the Princess underwent chemotherapy throughout the year. The situation was further complicated when the hospital where she received treatment suffered a data breach, reportedly threatening to leak sensitive information about her diagnosis.
Despite these hardships, the Princess announced in January 2025 that she is now in remission—a moment Foreman described as arriving “just in time.”
“Frankly – if there was ever a time when the country required stability, this is it,” Foreman added, pointing to broader geopolitical uncertainty and domestic pressures that have placed increased scrutiny on the Royal Family.
The historian underscored how such health crises can deeply strain a marriage, noting, “Cancer either crushes a marriage or it brings them together.” In the case of William and Kate, it appears to have strengthened their bond.
As the couple balanced royal duties with private turmoil, their steadfast presence has resonated with the British public. Their composed appearances and united front have reassured many during a period of significant upheaval.
“It is rather extraordinary to see how both have risen to the occasion,” Foreman noted, pointing to the global instability currently dominating headlines. Their ability to project calm and leadership amid personal suffering has only elevated their stature within the monarchy and public eye.
It’s also worth noting that Princess Kate was not the only royal facing a health battle. King Charles III and Sarah Ferguson were also diagnosed with cancer during the same period, making 2024 a particularly difficult year for the royal household.
Yet through it all, Prince William and Princess Kate have maintained their roles with dignity and determination, solidifying their image as the future face of a resilient monarchy.
