Flames Erupt During Unauthorized Stunt Driving, Caught on Camera

A driver in Miami brought traffic to a standstill on an already congested holiday weekend by igniting a ring of fire during an unauthorized street takeover. A video capturing two cars spinning amidst flames at the Northwest 7th Avenue and 54th Street intersection has been widely shared on social media.

Authorities swiftly responded to the scene on Saturday night, with the chaotic event and subsequent shooting all recorded on camera.

The Miami-Dade police had voiced concerns just weeks prior about shootings related to such unauthorized activities. Miami-Dade Police Ofc. Alvaro Zabaleta remarked, “Once bullets come into play, their trajectory is unpredictable. Innocent bystanders could easily be harmed.”

Street takeovers and stunt driving, including street racing, are illegal in Florida. The issue persists statewide. From 2018 to 2022, the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles reported over 6,600 citations issued for street racing and stunt driving.

While the investigation into the recent street takeover continues, police have yet to disclose any arrests. When WPLG Local 10 contacted Miami police regarding the incident, they were informed that details would only be available by Tuesday.
