Director Lee Daniels Apologizes To Mo’Nique, Putting an End to 13-Year Dispute Following Oscar Win

Mo’Nique, a comedian and actor, has reconciled with director Lee Daniels, putting an end to a years-long conflict that began when she refused to promote their 2009 movie “Precious.”

Daniels joined Mo’Nique on stage at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island, New York, on Friday night for her comedy show.

“I am so sorry for hurting you in any way that I did,” he said, according to a video posted on Twitter.

“She was my best friend,” he continued, addressing the crowd. “My best friend. Y’all think that ‘Precious’ was just … that was God working through both of us. And we gonna f—ing do it again. I love you. I love you. I love you.”

Mo’Nique replied, “I love you.”

According to Deadline, the two, who went 13 years without speaking, have recently patched things up ahead of the news that Mo’Nique will star in Daniels’ upcoming film, “Demon House.”

As per Nbcnews, Octavia Spencer was set to star in the film, which is about a social worker who assists a family through a series of exorcisms, but she stepped out due to a scheduling difficulty, according to Deadline. Spencer was replaced with Mo’Nique, according to Daniels.

Mo’Nique has been outspoken about her feud with Daniels, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 that she was “blackballed” for not campaigning for Daniels’ film “Precious” during Oscar season. She ended up winning best-supporting actress for her portrayal of an abusive mother.

“I got a phone call from Lee Daniels. … And he said to me, ‘Mo’Nique, you’ve been blackballed,'” she told the magazine. “And I said, ‘I’ve been blackballed? Why have I been blackballed?’ And he said, ‘Because you didn’t play the game.'”

After putting their differences aside, the two shared photos of their reconciliation on Instagram.

“NO CAPTION NEEDED. I LOVE US 4REAL,” Mo’Nique wrote, while Daniels posted: “no caption needed @therealmoworldwide.”
